When I look at the present generation of highly westernized (looks, i am referring to) media savvy, artificially natural in both looks and attitude , botoxe ridden actresses , how my respect and adulation for those Beautiful yesteryear actresses increases tenfold...
They were all so unique and so regal in their bearing...;naturally beautiful, and oh so feminine..
Madhubala has always been a special favorite.I have seen most of her movies over and over again.Her mesmerising beauty , that ravishing smile and yes , i have always felt that she was a very natural and spontaneous actress like Geeta Bali..another favorite actress, bubbly and so full of life , that she overshadows all other actors sharing space with her on screen .'Jaal' Baazi and Jailor are some of her movies that i have seen...
Then there was Waheeda Rehman who i have felt had the most perfectly beautiful face , flawless , dignified and had such a lovely screen presence..;i have seen many of her movies 'Pyasa' CID,Kagaz ke phool, Sahib bibi aur ghulam,Chaudvin ka chand,Kala bazaar,Ek phool char kante,Dil diya...what an impressive line up of movies.She was truly one of the Greatest actresses we ever had, like Nargis , Meena Kumari and Nutan.
Then there was Vyjayantimala, who was like a royal princess,Beautiful, sure of herself, yet so graceful and charming.It is a pleasure watching her on screen, especially her dances.She is sheer magic.My own favorites among her vast number of films Nagin,Madhumati,Devdas,Naya daur,Ganga Jamuna,Jewel thief,Prince,Sadhana,Sangam...
In fact i love all those older actresses Nimmi,NaliniJayawant,MalaSinha,Sadhana Sharmila Tagore,Saira banu...; and even the so caled 'B' grade heroines like Shakila,Shyaama,Kum Kum ...;
Those heroines had characters..and their expressions are sublime..Who can forget...Dil ka bhanwar kare pukar - Nutan, Pyar kiya to darna kya-Madhubala, Bawra bada nadaan hai- Waheeda, Aap ke nazron ne samjha- mala sinha, Ghadi ghadi mora dil dhadke-vyjayantimala, yahee woh jagah hai- Sharmila Tagore, Kashmir ki kali hoon main-Saira Bano...Oh the list is endless. They brought such dignity and elegance to their roles, what we see today are just cheap minmal clad caricatures.
ReplyDeleteWell said venkat...;i totally agree with that, Some of those old songs picturised even on a so called 'B' grade heroine, were so lovely to watch,'Na toh dard gaya re' picturised on Shakeela and 'Haal e dil unko sunaya tha ' on a relatively lesser known Zeb Rehman, 'Yaad suhani teri bani zindgani meri' so also 'Nigahon mein tum ho-gem of a song picturised on Vijaya Choudhry..; i have liked all these song picurisations which enhanced the song and the status of the actresses..;
